In a major step towards simplifying public services, the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has enabled residents to update their Aadhaar address online from the comfort of their homes. This digital initiative is part of UIDAI’s ongoing efforts to enhance ease of access, eliminate paperwork, and reduce the need for physical visits to Aadhaar Seva Kendras.

The self-service portal available at myaadhaar.uidai.gov.in allows any Aadhaar holder to log in using their OTP and request an address update with valid proof — all within a few minutes.

🏠 What You Can Update from Home

Currently, only address changes are allowed via the online portal. Other demographic changes such as name, date of birth, gender, mobile number, or biometrics still require a visit to the nearest Aadhaar Seva Kendra or authorized center.

📲 How to Update Your Aadhaar Address Online

  1. Visit: https://myaadhaar.uidai.gov.in

  2. Login with your 12-digit Aadhaar number and OTP sent to your registered mobile.

  3. Click on “Update Aadhaar Online”

  4. Select “Address”

  5. Upload a scanned copy of valid address proof (in PDF or JPEG format)

  6. Submit the request and note down the Update Request Number (URN) for future tracking.

Fee: ₹50 is charged for each successful online update.

✅ Acceptable Documents for Online Address Update

UIDAI accepts a wide range of documents, including:

  • Passport

  • Voter ID

  • Bank statement or passbook

  • Electricity or water bill (not older than 3 months)

  • Ration card

  • Government-issued ID cards with address

You can check the complete list of accepted documents on the UIDAI website.

🔍 Track Your Update Status

Users can track the status of their request using the URN on the same portal. Once approved, the new address gets reflected in the Aadhaar record, and residents can download an updated e-Aadhaar instantly.

🔒 Security and Transparency

The Aadhaar update portal uses end-to-end encryption, OTP verification, and captcha-based login to ensure secure processing of personal data.

With this online feature, Aadhaar holders no longer need to queue up at government offices or third-party agents for a simple address change. This move is expected to benefit millions, especially students, migrants, and urban renters, making Aadhaar a truly flexible and citizen-friendly identity system. (my aadhar)
