Before its planned launch, Vodafone Idea (Vi) is reportedly testing its 5G services in Mumbai. According to the article, a number of telecom provider consumers have posted images of their devices showing the 5G network icon enabled, in-app confirmation, and 5G activation messages. This is only a few weeks after the business said in its Q3 2024-25 report that it intended to commercially introduce 5G services in Mumbai. Bengaluru, Chandigarh, Delhi, and Patna would all get 5G networks in April, the newspaper further noted.

According to reports, Vodafone Idea (Vi) has started the 5G rollout trial phase.

A TelecomTalk report claims that Vodafone Idea (Vi) may have begun testing its 5G services in Mumbai. The article included social media feeds and user reports on their devices displaying the network logo and 5G activation messages. Similar posts were also found on X (previously known as Twitter) by Gadgets 360 employees.

A user claimed that voice over new radio (VoNR) functionality is not yet accessible and uploaded screenshots of Vi’s under-trial service’s 5G network symbol and speed test. Notably, VoNR technology enables 5G network call placement and reception. Additionally, the customer reported receiving download speeds of over 200 Mbps and upload speeds of over 20 Mbps.

A new in-app page that displays the current locations of the 5G network was shared by another user in the area. The screenshot indicates that Navi Mumbai, Thane, and Kalyan are listed as “coming soon,” and that the 5G service is currently only available in Mumbai.

In a another thread, the same person published the activation notice that the telecom company had shared. According to the message, “Congrats! Your number has been activated for Vi 5G service. Take advantage of our introductory offer for unlimited 5G data with unlimited bundles costing Rs 299 or more.

According to a different user, Vi is limiting access to 5G networks to a select group of users during the reported testing phase. While connecting to the 5G network, several users have reported receiving speeds exceeding 250Mbps.

Interestingly, there have been no formal pronouncements by Vodafone Idea (Vi) about the introduction of 5G in India.
