The chairman and managing director of the state-owned telecom company Bharat Sanchar Nigam (BSNL) allegedly declared on Tuesday that the company had no immediate intentions to raise pricing. In addition to introducing seven new services and a new logo, the official said that BSNL will concentrate on enhancing the quality of its offerings in order to keep the new customers it attracted when telecom companies like Bharti Airtel and Reliance Jio raised their prices in India.
BSNL Has No Plans to Hike Tariffs
Following a price increase by its private sector competitors in India, BSNL added 2.9 million new customers in July, increasing its market share to 8%. One of the main causes of Indian consumers switching from telecom providers like Airtel, Reliance Jio, and Vodafone Idea (Vi) to BSNL was cited as lower pricing.
According to a Financial Express story, the state-owned operator will not raise charges anytime soon in an attempt to keep these newly acquired customers, and part of that effort would involve improving the quality of its services.
“We can clearly say we are not going to increase our tariffs in the near future,” stated Robert Ravi, Chairman and Managing Director of BSNL, during the unveiling of the new logo. Nowadays, gaining the trust and satisfaction of its customers is BSNL’s top priority. We no longer believe that tariff increases are necessary.
Additionally, the telecom provider wants to increase the number of its customers in India. By 2025, it wants to hold a quarter of the nation’s market, the official said. The company’s predicted growth will likely be driven by its recently released services, which include fiber-based intranet TV, Any Time SIM (ATM) kiosks, Wi-Fi roaming for fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) customers, and spam prevention.
Jyotiraditya Scindia, the minister of communications, emphasized that the state-owned telecom provider will “always” be a pioneer at the forefront of innovation. The minister emphasized how BSNL’s subscriber base has grown from 7.5 million to 18 million in March 2024 since the start of its 4G deployment. One lakh 4G sites will be owned by BSNL in India by the middle of 2025; some of these sites will also be converted to 5G.
